[ An almost-laugh is good - it’s better. And perhaps more importantly - though Jin Ling hasn’t noticed - is that he’s been completely derailed into worrying about Sizhui rather than worrying about himself.

He doesn’t really think about it, when he turns his head to press a slightly rough, half frustrated kiss to Suzhui’s temple, as if to say “so there!!”. ]
